HBI Thompson & Capper new solar panels supplying renewable energy to Runcorn based manufacturing facilities.

We at HBI Thompson & Capper are excited to announce “The Big Solar Switch-On”, which will take place at our manufacturing facility in Runcorn, Cheshire, on 21st February 2025. Having invested £1,000,000 into solar technology, we will be connecting the first phase of our impressive new array of more than 900 solar panels, generating around 724 MWh of energy—accounting for approximately 30% of our total annual energy requirements and significantly reducing our reliance on the national grid. This clean energy initiative is equivalent to powering around 268 homes per year.

We have been an integral part of the Runcorn community since relocating across the River Mersey from Speke in 1976. This latest investment is part of our wider commitment to minimising our environmental impact on the local area. With a team of more than 350 employees from across Cheshire, we are dedicated to becoming the most sustainable contract manufacturer in the world, reinforcing our commitment to using 100% renewable energy in the production of our goods and services.

Our Managing Director, Matthew Dyal, shared his thoughts on this significant milestone:

The Big Solar Switch-On marks a major step in our journey towards true sustainability. Investing in renewable energy isn’t just the right thing to do—it strengthens our commitment to the environment, our community, and our customers. This is just one step in our mission to set the standard for green manufacturing.

Already ranked within the top 15% of EcoVadis-rated businesses for sustainability, we are living up to our promise of ‘Sustainably Exceeding Expectations’ and driving a cycle of change across the Nutraceutical industry. From sustainable packaging and environmental protection to carbon emission reductions and green energy, we are leading the way in creating a greener future for our industry.
